The University of Northampton will be providing an advice service for potential students on Thursday 19 August 2010, A-Level results day.

There is a national demand for university places in academic year 2010/11 and limited places on courses through Clearing, a process which helps people without a university or college place to find suitable vacancies on higher education courses.

However, Simon Marsh, Head of Marketing at The University of Northampton, advises potential students looking to go into higher education in 2010/11 that many different options are available to them – not just the traditional full-time, three year study route:

“Many, many students will get into their universities of first choice for 2010/11 but for those who do not get the results or into the university they expect, our advice is not to panic. We will have a dedicated website up for the Clearing period and our Clearing hotline will be open from 19 August including an advice service. Contact us to find out what options are available to you and what steps you can take next.

“It is worth considering part-time options; you may find this style of study even works better for you as you can combine your course with part-time or even full-time employment – earning money and gaining valuable skills for your CV whilst you learn. Part-time students may be eligible for means-tested, non-repayable support with tuition fees. We have also just launched our Flexible Pathway Degree programme, a unique opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in the workplace whilst also studying your chosen subject.”

Clearing is also a time when any applications can be considered for entry into higher education, not just from those students who have received their A-Level results. Whether you’re looking to engage in study to further or change your career, to boost your knowledge, develop new skills or to broaden your horizons, the University’s advice line can give you further guidance on your options.

From Thursday 19 August, the important numbers you will need are:

-      The University of Northampton’s Clearing hotline – 0800 358 0066 (To apply for a course through Clearing or for advice on next steps and other options. 8am to 5pm on 19 and 20 August, 9am to 5pm weekdays thereafter. More advice and information on Clearing and other options available will be available online at www.northampton.ac.uk/clearing from 19 August)
-      The University of Northampton’s Confirmation hotline – 0800 358 2826 (for UCAS applicants only; if The University of Northampton is your first or insurance choice but you do not meet the requirements specified in your offer letter. Please have your UCAS ID number to hand. Open 8am to 6pm 19 August, 9am to 5pm weekdays thereafter)
