Wi-fi owner fined for lax security in Germany

A chap in Germany has been fined £86 for having unsecured wi-fi that allowed someone to illegally download and file share music.

"Private users are obligated to check whether their wireless connection is adequately secured to the danger of
unauthorized third parties abusing it to commit copyright violation," the court in Karlsruhe said.

I've not even set my stuff up for wireless.  wired is far safer

We are wireless, but I do have security enabled.

The router is on top of the TV so I can see the activity lights and know when one of our laptops is connecting to the web or checking for emails.

If wireless users were under the threat of being fined for unsecure wireless then maybe there would be less problems as everyone would use
the security features.

Anyone with unsecured wifi deserves what they get,afterall it isn't rocket science
