Students from The University of Northampton will be engaging in a series of events next week as part of National Student Volunteering Week (22 – 28 February 2010).
The week aims to raise the national profile of further and higher education volunteering and activities at The University of Northampton are being organised by its Centre for Community Volunteering.
The Centre will be holding an Open Day on Tuesday 23 February in Park Campus library foyer to showcase the wealth of volunteering opportunities on offer to the student body. Employers are increasingly looking for volunteering experience in job applications and you can allow as much time as you can spare; projects can be one-off or more regular.
The [Re] Fashion Show event takes place from 7 – 9pm on Wednesday 24 February at Isham Dark, Avenue Campus. This charity Fashion Show and fundraising evening is the culmination of four months work for University staff and student volunteers and will showcase recycled fashion.
Year 1 BA Fashion students have designed garments for the catwalk from unwanted charity shop stock, recycled and reclaimed materials and BA Event Management students will be acting as front of house support on the evening, as well as organising the raffle, marketplace and auction that will take place.
Other student and staff volunteers will be modelling on the night, designing hair and make-up and creating a video documentary and photographic record of the event.
Funds raised on the evening will be supporting Friends of Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Friends of Northampton General Hospital, Oxfam, Save the Children and Age Concern. There are some tickets still on sale priced at £10.
All proceeds will be split between the charities.
