- One of the arrests for 17-24 year olds was made the morning after

At this stage in the 2010 campaign:

- 63 people had been arrested and 48 had been charged

- Of the 63 people arrested, 18 were aged between 17 and 24
- 14 of the 17-24 year olds had been charged
- None of the arrests for 17-24 year olds were made the morning after

Deputy Chief Constable Suzette Davenport said: “Christmas is a time for family and friends. No police officer wants to have to knock on someone’s door and deliver the message that a loved one has died or been seriously injured at the hands of a drink or drug driver. If you drink alcohol or take drugs before driving, we will be looking for you.”

Officers will be continuing to carry out high profile roadside checks throughout the county as well as targeted and intelligence-led operations. Checks will be taking place at all times of the day and night.

Anyone who suspects a driver in Northamptonshire of taking to the wheel under the influence of drink or drugs is urged to call the Drivewatch Hotline, a 24-hour telephone service, on 0800 174615. This confidential service is regularly monitored and intelligence is followed up by officers. Information can also be emailed using the Drivewatch form on the force website at www.northants.police.uk/drivewatch.
